Good Food Purchasing Australia

About us
Reimagining public food spending to be in service of people, place and planet
$2.13 billion is spent on public food every year, with no national standard guiding where it goes. GFPA launched in April 2026 to close that gap.
How we work
Three interconnected pillars, each strengthening each other
1
Policy and Systems Reform
Engaging government at every level to embed good food purchasing in legislation and policy.
2
Coalition and Movement Building
Bringing advocates across nature, farming, local economies and health together to push for better purchasing.
3
Place-Based Practice and Demonstration
Working with regions and actors to put good food purchasing into practice and building models others can adapt.
Our theory of change
ACTIVITIES
Grow the Alliance, communicate publicly, enable local action, transform insight to policy
OUTPUTS
A unified coalition, informed decision makers, empowered citizens, evidence-driven demonstration
OUTCOMES
Food procurement in policy, capital flowing to gaps, purpose-driven practice, shifting expectations
IMPACT
Systemic transformation, equitable access to food, a resilient food system
