Good Food Purchasing Australia

Advocacy
Turning evidence and practice into meaningful, shared standards
TRANSFORMING THE PUBLIC PLATE REPORT
These are not simply transactions. Collectively, these purchasing decisions shape production systems, supply chains, diets, livelihoods and environmental outcomes. They determine who thrives within our food system and who is left behind.
The policy reform we are seeking
Four meaningful changes to the way food is procured
1
A framework mandating criteria and standards
Mandatory nutrition and local sourcing criteria for all government-funded institutions and programs.
2
Integration into government strategy
Public food procurement embedded into existing and future policy frameworks, including the national food security strategy.
3
Transparency and accountability
Public data on how and from whom government food is purchased, including visibility over First Nations procurement.
4
Whole of government implementation
A coordinated approach across every State and Federal department that purchases food, including health, agriculture, finance and defence.
