Good Food Purchasing Australia Alliance
Collaboration to leverage food systems change through public food procurement

Good Food Purchasing Australia (GFPA) is a newly formed, action-oriented initiative that connects policy, research and practice to transform how Australian governments source and purchase food. GFPA was established as a direct response to the findings of The Transforming the Plate report, commissioned by the Macdoch Foundation and produced by a national team of food systems researchers and practitioners. GFPA brings together experts across health, agriculture, environment, procurement and community wellbeing to advocate for a smarter, fairer and more sustainable public food system. It works closely with communities, enterprises, farmers and institutional actors who are driving better food procurement in regions and cities across Australia.
The GFPA is creating an Alliance whose role is to turn evidence into coordinated action.
What is the GFPA Alliance?
A national group of organisations committed to collaborating, advocating for, and taking action on public food procurement reform in Australia.
Why an Alliance?
The report makes clear that progress is limited not by lack of evidence or opportunity, but by fragmentation. The Alliance provides a shared platform to align efforts, amplify influence and support practical change.
The Alliance will co-design a shared position for public food procurement so we can
· Advocate for policy and procurement practice reform
· Support coordinated action across sectors and regions
· Champion and enable demonstration projects
· Build shared learning and momentum through a Community of Practice
Who can join
Membership is welcomed by organisations and individuals that share the Alliance’s evidence driven goals and values (see diagram below), including: - Government agencies and public institutions - NGOs and peak bodies - Research organisations - Philanthropic organisations.
